There are many reasons why bamboo is a great flooring option. It’s eco-friendly, it’s durable, and it’s versatile!
Not only does bamboo look great in almost any house, it is environmentally sustainable! Part of what makes bamboo so sustainable is that it only takes about three to five years for bamboo to fully mature whereas hardwoods take anywhere from 25 years to 125 years to mature.
Bamboo is a lot denser than other types of wood used for hardwood flooring making it a more durable flooring solution. In fact, bamboo actually isn’t a wood at all—it’s a tropical grass that has many of the same physical properties as wood. Bamboo’s hardness is comparable to red or white oak but certain manufacturing techniques can double its strength.
Although the natural, light almond color of bamboo can look quite stunning, bamboo can be stained with almost any color so that you can work it into any design scheme! The color of bamboo can also be changed using a process called carbonizing. Carbon is added during pressure-steaming resulting in a darker, or toasted, appearance.
